NaNoWriMo Part 1 – How I’m planning my novel with World Anvil!!!

As we prepare for NanoWriMo, I am talking about what resource I use to plan out a fantasy novel.

So I have never completed a NaNoWriMo in its entirety, one the hardest struggles has been running out of ideas and direction.

I have found the easiest thing for me is planning out what I want to write about.

I found a platform that I use which makes planning things easier and it has so many functions from character/world building to options for writing in the platform and it’s even something where you can use it for fantasy table top role playing games (ex. D&D).

World Anvil has been a huge help with world building and allowing me to write things and connect them to each other (I’m not getting paid anything to promote them). You can have various categories/sub categories/articles and each of these allow you to further break them down into various sub sections. For someone like me whose writing a fantasy novel this is like God’s gift to earth!

These are the various articles you can have and they can be connected into a ton of different things including who might run a country, where these buildings are and so many other things.

Here’s the kicker it even has a built in manuscript section that works just like Microsoft Word and since it’s all built into the system you can literally tab between writing, to your character articles and then back to writing all over again. This is extremely robust and it makes writing so much easier because it’s all in one place.

The last thing about this that makes it so appealing is you can also upload files/images/roleplay. This is just as awesome for fantasy world building as well especially regarding table top RPG’s. It really is perfect for planning and all around great for making sure you can build something and allow yourself to plan out what and how you’re going to do this.

So if you want to check it out it’s pretty cool and pretty exciting to use. I plan on using this all through NaNoWriMo and again me and the majestic wife will be on twitch streaming as we write and talking about what we’re writing about. We hope you’ll join us and come hang out when we start writing in November! The channel is here.

Nanowrimo 2020

Majestic Wife and I try to participate in NaNoWriMo every year, that is National Novel Writing Month for you non-participants! This will be our second year competing against each other… nothing like a little friendly competition to spice up the relationship.

Each year you need to write a new story and you can’t actually start writing it until November 1st. The goal is to write 50,000 words and there are prizes, but I don’t know what they are because I have never finished, lol.

Last year was unsuccessful, more so for me than the Majestic Wife, I finished NaNoWriMo with right around 3000 words and I think she topped it off at around 9000-10000. Part of this was due to a lot of things going on right before the end of the year but we are hunkering down and give it the good ole what for!

So with this years just around the corner we have been a bit more serious about it and have already started planning for this November. I have decided to write a prequel to the novel I started this year and Majestic Wife has decided to write an original.

I also thought it would be kinda fun to again keep track of our progress and do a blog every few days maybe with some excerpts as well as updates on our progress.

This is gonna be a fairly short blog as a basis but I’m gonna go ahead and just post the link for NaNoWriMo if you wanna sign up and try writing your own novel this year!

Click here for the link to NaNoWriMo! We don’t get anything for you clicking on that link but if you also wanna post your progress along with us we would absolutely love to read what everyone is doing! You can add us as buddies; I am Struddless and Majestic Wife is MrsBMalicki.

If you have some time to swing by during the month of November on my stream I’ll be doing writing over there with the Majestic wife so you can hang out with us and chat! The streams link is here!
